Academy 12578 1/72 F-14B VF-103 Jolly Rogers Model Kit
A supersonic fighter, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a twin-engine aircraft with two crew, an aviator and a Radar Intercept Officer. The Tomcat has only ever operated with the US Navy as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran. The nickname of “Tomcat” stems from the call sign of Vice Admiral Thomas Connolly who ascribed to the USN’s tradition of naming Grumman aircraft with feline monikers. The Grumman F-14B (163217) operated with the "Jolly Rogers" (VF-103) in early 1999. In 2001 the aircraft moved to VF-102. In the summer of 2003, it was returned to VF-103. The aircraft was the first VF-103 F-14 to acquire the Sparrow Hawk HUD (2004). The aircraft obtained a new paint scheme in 2005 for the 60th anniversary of VF-103 flying F-14s. This kit contains transparent and plastic parts for the faithful recreation of USN F-14B with two finishing options in 1/72 scale. The fully assembled model is 26.6cm long and 7.3cm tall.
