Airfix #A02058 1/72 DE Havilland Vampire T.II/J-28C

First entering RAF service in 1952, the De Havilland Vampire T.11 trainer was the final UK variant of Britain’s second operational jet fighter and the first advanced jet trainer to adopt a side-by-side seating configuration. Unusually, the forward section of the fuselage was constructed of plywood, adopting manufacturing techniques perfected on the famous wartime Mosquito.lthough the de Havilland Vampire holds the distinction of being the second British designed jet to enter Royal Air Force service, the two seat T.11 training variant would not enter service until six years after the first single seat fighters had done so. When it did, it gave the RAF pilot training programme a welcome boost and is regarded by many as perhaps the most attractive of all the early British jets, with its front profile possessing more than just a passing resemblance to de Havilland’s wartime Mosquito.
