History
In November 1934, the Air Ministry evaluated various manufacturers' chassis to meet RAF requirements. Albion secured the contract with a uniquely adapted version of the mid-sized 463, designated with the AM (Air Ministry) prefix. It served multiple purposes, most notably as a refuelling vehicle.
Choosing the Albion chassis marked a significant advancement in standardising RAF ground support machinery during the inter-war years. The AM463's sturdy construction and dependable performance made it ideal for the challenging conditions of military airfield operations.
During World War Two, these adaptable vehicles were a common presence on RAF airfields across the UK and abroad, playing a crucial yet often underappreciated role in maintaining the operational readiness of fighter and bomber units.
