Meng # VS-004 1/35 Toyota Hilux Pick-Up Truck with ZPU23-2
Introduction:
The Toyota Land Cruiser series has probably been the widely used FWD “Technical” used in many African and Middle Eastern conflicts over the last 40 years or so. The term “Technical” has been given to mean any civilian vehicle modified to carry any available heavy weapon as a cheap and easy means of providing firepower to the various militias using the vehicles.
The earlier 40 series, the 70 series (as depicted in this kit) and later 80 series (in the current Syrian civil war) appear to be the most commonly used versions of the Land Cruiser with many having some real way-out camouflage paint schemes applied by their owners. The Toyota J75 Land Cruiser Series built was between 1984 and 2007.
The kit:
Meng Models follows on from their first kit of the Pickup w/ZPU-1 (kit #VS-001) with this new kit of a Pickup w/SU-23-2 twin 23mm AA Gun mounted over the rear tray. The kit appears to be a good match for the 1990 Toyota HZJ75P 2-door Pick-up but I’m no civilian vehicle expert so stand to be corrected on that.
The kit consists of a total of 202 plastic parts on 9 sprues plus 10 PE parts, these are broken down as:
33 black plastic parts for the chassis and suspension
58 tan plastic parts for the pickup
101 dark green plastic parts for the ZU-2-3-2
5 black vinyl tyres
1 small decal sheet
18 page A5 sized instruction booklet in colour
