AFV Club #AF35008 1/35 M88A1 Bergepanzer Recovery Tank
The M88 whole tracked armoured recovery vehicle was designated by US Army to be the standard ARV after the M-74. Since first production in 1960 till the final vehicle was completed in 1964, by which time 1075 had been built.The M-88 used as many components as possible of the M48 tank family and have been in service during the Vietnam War.
In 1975 M88 was fitted with AVDS-1790-2DR diesel engine made by Teledyne Continental Motors to replace the old power unit. This gave it increased power output to 750 bhp. This was name the M88A1.
The vehicle is operated by 4 crew. The front of the vehicle has spade operated by a winch and A-Type boom which provides a maximum carrying capacity of 25 tons. The commander has a .50 machine gun for AA defence. The vehicle has a top speed of 26 mph with a cruising range of 300 miles.
These vehicles are in active service including ROC, Germany, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Korea, Kuwait, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
