The FW16 was revised with new bodywork, which included a low sloping engine cover, higher sidepods, an enclosed driveshaft, and a new lower rear wing. Aside from these changes, the FW16 had a new innovative rear suspension wishbone design, a better Renault Sport Formula One engine (the RS6), and a redesigned fuel valve to enable mid-race refuelling.
