ILK #63503 1/35  Soviet Navy G-5 Class Torpedo Boat 1-35

G-5 is a term for a type of Soviet torpedo boats from the interwar period and World War II. The first boats of this type entered service in 1933. A single cutter of this type was 19.1 m long and 3.3 m wide. The drive was provided by two internal combustion engines with a total power of 2312 KM, which allowed to achieve a fantastic speed of about 50-52 knots! The on-board armament consisted of two single 533 mm torpedo tubes, two 12.7 mm machine guns and up to 4 naval mines.

The G-5 torpedo cutter type was developed by air designer Andrei Tupolev. For this reason, these cutters were characterized by very streamlined hulls, the use of high-power aircraft engines or the use of duralumin on a large scale. In order to shorten the research and development work, the general assumptions were based on the solutions used in the Sz-4 type cutters. Ultimately, the G-5 cutters had a great top speed and were considered to be the fastest in their class in the world. They also proved to be a useful weapon during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and during the German-Soviet War (1941-1945). In total, more than 200 cutters of this type were created in various versions.
