The largest machines in the world are used to extract lignite. The 13,000-ton, 200-meter-long excavator 289 transports 300,000 m³ (!) Of overburden or coal every day. 100 electric motors with a total output of 17,000 kW (22,670 hp) allow the "289" to be moved at a speed of 600 m per hour.
