The Renault 5 Turbo, the sporty version of the urban Renault, has been completely redesigned. Its aim was to validate the 400 units required for its homologation for the rally. Its Cléon Fonte engine has been redesigned by Alpine. With its newly-installed turbo, it can achieve 160 bhp and has a 1.4-liter capacity. The positioning of the propulsion unit has been modified, placing it in the middle of the rear of the car to better distribute the weight. The 5 Turbo thus becomes a rear-wheel drive car and will be produced in 1678 units before being replaced by the Turbo 2.
