Bergepanzer 2 is a West German, and currently German, tracked maintenance vehicle. The first prototypes of the vehicle were probably created in the years 1963-1964, and its production started in 1965. The length of the wagon is approx. 7.6 meters, with a width of 3.25 meters. The Bergepanzer 2 is powered by an 830 HP MTU MB 838 Ca-M 500 engine. The vehicle is armed with two 7.62mm MG3 machine guns. The Bergepanzer 2 vehicle was developed at the request of the Bundeswehr, which in the early 1960s sought to acquire a completely new technical support vehicle that would be able to fully cooperate with the Leopard 1 tanks. and the engine. The main change concerned the front and middle parts of the car, in which an armored crew cabin and the lion's share of technical equipment were installed. Several versions of this vehicle were created in the course of production, among them: Bergepanzer 2 (basic version of the car), Bergepanzer 2 A2 (version from 1978 with a more powerful crane) or Pionierpanzer 1 (engineer car).
